AirWalk Communications Among First to Develop CDMA Femtocells Using FSM Chipsets from Qualcomm

AirWalk Announces World’s First Dual-Mode Femtocell

RICHARDSON, Texas, March 24, 2010 – AirWalk Communications, a leading developer and innovator of advanced CDMA technologies, today announced it has been working with Qualcomm Incorporated to design a family of femtocell products using Qualcomm’s new Femtocell Station Modem™ (FSM™) integrated system-on-a-chip (SoC) device. The new femtocell product designs utilize a platform that offers an unprecedented level of integration in a single device while preserving existing software application interfaces to maximize the reuse of femtocell voice and data application software.

AirWalk’s EdgePoint™ line of highly intuitive femtocell products meets the needs of enterprises and consumers who demand constantly connected lifestyles. Advanced application software integrates voice and data functions, RF performance management and comprehensive automatic configuration capabilities into a single system that can scale from single femtocell home applications to more powerful high-capacity clusters capable of supporting the largest enterprises or public venues.

“AirWalk and Qualcomm have worked closely together over the past two years to define the important elements of femtocell products,” said Serge Pequeux, President and CEO of AirWalk Communications. “The compatibility of the FSM software architecture combined with our field proven unique integrated controller software enables AirWalk to be first to market with FSM based CDMA femtocell products.”

“Qualcomm’s FSM chipsets enable companies such as AirWalk to deliver compact, powerful femtocell products to the market,” said Ed Knapp, senior vice president of marketing for Qualcomm. “The FSM platform offers a robust combination of processing performance and optimized power consumption in a single chip. By integrating channel modems, processors, GPS elements, and beacons into one device, the hardware needed to perform these functions is significantly reduced. We look forward to bringing coverage and performance advantages to consumers around the world with our femtocell solutions.”

AirWalk’s EdgePoint consumer femtocells extend voice and data cellular service to homes, small businesses and campus areas. The EdgePoint PRO is a compact enterprise femtocell that brings optimal cellular service to enterprise offices or large building facilities. Both devices serve as low-power access points, operating in licensed spectrum, to connect subscribers to their carrier’s network via broadband Internet connections.

AirWalk will provide demonstrations of several models, including the powerful EdgePoint™ PRO for enterprise deployment, at the annual CTIA event (Booth #2130 Central Hall) taking place in Las Vegas on March 23-25, 2010.
