Difference in Picocell and Femtocell
What is the difference between picocells and femtocells?
The defining line between femtocell, enterprise femtocell and picocell is grey, both in terms of functionality and in the eyes of the customers. Femtocell and enterprise femtocell capacity is generally defined as somewhere between 4 and 32 users, depending on the applications, whereas a picocell is generally thought to support 16 to 64 users or more. Femtocells are almost always equipped with automatic self configuration capabilities whereas a picocell could include automatic or manual configuration capabilities, or even a combination of both. The same overlapping differences for the femtocells and picocells apply to power outputs, the ability to cluster with soft handoff, and indoor or outdoor implementations.
It is important to note that the AirWalk femtocell and picocell product line is based on a common set of capabilities that can be implemented in different product configurations to cover all the commonly defined femtocell and picocell applications.
