RICHARDSON, Texas, February 11, 2009 – AirWalk Communications, an innovator in IP-based cellular radio network equipment, will participate in the FemtoZone at Mobile World Congress 2009 next week. AirWalk’s EdgePoint femtocell will be on display in the FemtoZone. AirWalk will also participate in a live solution demonstration with partners Tatara Systems and Acme Packet in Acme Packet's hospitality suite (suite# Z3.12). AirWalk’s Edgepoint consumer femtocell is currently on trial with numerous operators and is proving to be very successful. “As a technology leader in this rapidly developing industry, AirWalk is anticipating a strong year as consumers and cellular service providers embrace femtocells,” said Serge Pequeux, president and CEO. “2009 is expected to be a crucial year for initial femtocell networks, while consumer deployment will expand dramatically in 2010.” “Over the past year the femtocell industry has overcome major technical and business challenges paving the way in 2009 for operators to introduce commercial services. As such the Mobile World Congress is going to be a key event for operators to cement their consumer propositions to ensure their launches are as successful as possible,” said Professor Simon Saunders, Chairman of The Femto Forum. “This year’s Mobile World Congress marks the beginning of the real acid test for femtocells. The FemtoZone will attempt to address the key issues, such as what is going to be the key driver for successful deployments and are there going to be further technical hurdles to be addressed before we see large scale deployment,” sad Robindhra Mangtani, Director of the GSMA project on Femtocells.
