Why have the larger manufacturers not addressed this product evolution of providing a single BTS/BSC solution?
Q1. Who is AirWalk? A1. AirWalk Communications, Inc. is a wireless CDMA Radio Access Network (RAN) developer based in Richardson, Texas. We bring to market the industry’s first integrated base station transceiver (BTS) and base station controller(BSC) system for CDMA networks. With AirWalk’s pico/micro/macro BTS/BSC system, service providers can cost effectively resolve coverage and capacity issues associated with wireless services such as hotspots, blind spots, indoor/campus coverage, rural area coverage and wireless data applications.

Q2. What is your product? A2. AirWalk has assembled a unique blend of core competencies in Radio Access Network (RAN) infrastructure by re-defining the balance between hardware implementation and software applications in RAN architecture. The product, the AW-Series, is a wireless CDMA RAN BTS/BSC designed and built as a single, integrated unit. »TOP
Q3. Who are your customers? A3. AirWalk customers include global CDMA service providers, wireless CDMA system integrators and CDMA wireless infrastructure OEMs. We complement existing networks by providing cost effective solutions for in-door, hotspot, and blind spot coverage, as well as network expansions. AirWalk supports new operators with complete low-density cellular networks for rural applications and campus environments. »TOP
Q4. What benefit does AirWalk offer wireless service providers? A4. The key benefit to the provider is increased wireless coverage and capacity for their existing subscriber base, as well as the ability to increase their revenue by creating and expanding to enterprise and rural networks – a completely new source of revenue generation that was unavailable until now. The AirWalk “Total Solution” provides operators with complete cellular networks in small stand-alone configurations including softswitches. The AirWalk Base Station Manager (BSM) supports all the BTS and BSC OA&M. »TOP
Q5. Will it be a replacement for the existing BTS? A5. AirWalk complements existing wireless networks by enabling providers to add our BTS/BSC system with significant cost reduction. We also provide a “total solution” for new wireless network deployments. The AirWalk solution is more cost effective than conventional legacy deployments because it has a small footprint, is stackable and modular, and is FCC certified. »TOP
Q6. Does it connect to the legacy networks as well as the 3G networks? A6. Yes. AirWalk supports three interfaces: IP, T1/E1 and ATM, which enables our customers to deploy the BTS element alone or as an integrated BTS/BSC solution. »TOP
Q7. Can your product work on any network? A7. Yes. AirWalk’s AW-Series conforms to all CDMA standards in 2G, 2.5 G and 3G networks. »TOP
Q8. How is this different from Wi-Fi? A8. Our products work on the global licensed CDMA frequency bands for both macro and micro networks. In contrast to the growing Wi-Fi standard, which operates on an unlicensed public frequency band, CDMA standards offer carrier grade voice and data service that is free of interference. CDMA has a proven track record and the highest level of security for in-building or campus networks. »TOP Q9. Do you have the necessary alliances in place to deliver the total AirWalk solution? A9. We have close relationships with several OEM manufacturers, and we have alliances with several global CDMA softswitch, PDSN, and media gateway suppliers in order to offer the total end-to-end CDMA IP solution. AirWalk’s IP-RAN products also interface to certain legacy mobile switching center (MSC) products. »TOP
Q10. Is the AirWalk solution upgradeable to next generation CDMA standards? A10. Yes, our architecture supports next generation CDMA standards. We hold a license from Qualcomm to develop these advanced technologies. »TOP
Q11. Do you intend to build a UMTS base station? A11. Yes, AirWalk has a program to develop W-CDMA base station.

Q12. Why have the larger manufacturers not addressed this product evolution of providing a single BTS/BSC solution? A12. The reliability of IP has matured to the point where wireless operators are willing to support the use of IP on their networks. At AirWalk we decided to place the BSC function with BTS in order to support IP at the RAN and reduce the network infrastructure cost. This unique feature has also improved functionality of the RAN by reducing the latency between the BTS and BSC thus reducing dropped call rates. »TOP
