AirWalk Reveals an Extensive Small Cell Product Portfolio at CTIA
Femtocells, Enterprise Femtocells, and Picocells Round-Out the Small Cell Offerings
RICHARDSON, TX, March 22, 2011 – AirWalk Communications Inc., the leader in small cell radio access networks, is showcasing a broad portfolio of small cell solutions at CTIA Wireless International in Orlando, FL, March 22-24 at AirWalk booth #2818. The extensive product line consists of CDMA residential femtocells, enterprise femtocells and picocells as well as an LTE small cell product.
Small cells are being deployed as an extension of the macro network to provide seamless coverage and enhanced capacity. The surge in high-speed data usage for mobile videos and applications has caused network congestion and an unbalanced distribution of data traffic on the macro network — small cells offer a solution to these critical services and enable enhanced user connectivity at any location. Small cells developed by AirWalk accommodate data off-load from the macro network in high traffic areas where users congregate, providing in-building connectivity and coverage expansion.
“The exponential increase in data usage has caused network dynamics to shift and deployment requirements to change, and as a solution operators are incorporating small cells as a crucial part of every network”, said Chris Yenney, AirWalk’s vice president of business development and marketing. “AirWalk’s comprehensive product line resolves the most pressing network expansion challenges, and therefore enables operators to enhance their level of coverage and capacity, quickly and cost effectively where it is needed most.”
AirWalk will be exhibiting at CTIA Wireless International, and on display will be the award winning residential femtocell, the EdgePointTM which offers seamless coverage inside homes and small offices. This miniature dual-mode 1xRTT and EV-DO access point supports up to 8 users simultaneously. EdgePoint’s unique consumer unit includes advanced RF mitigation techniques, IOS or SIP/IMS core integration, self-optimizing installation and a universal OAMP system.
AirWalk’s EdgePoint PRO enterprise femtocell, the industry’s first solution for office and campus coverage, is demonstrated by AirWalk. The dual mode product supports up to 32 EV-DO and 28 1xRTT users totaling 60 simultaneous users. It has advanced features such as seamless hand-in and hand-out, IOS or IMS/SIP backhaul and auto-configuration.
AirWalk has on display a network picocell. This robust base station is designed to enhance data rates, balance network capacity distribution, and off-load data from the macro network. AirWalk’s AW100 EV-DO picocells offer a flexible solution in a wide variety of configurations that can extend the macro network service wherever coverage and capacity is needed.
Small cells are essential in 3G/4G networks, but become even more crucial in LTE networks due to the unique wide-band nature of LTE and the throughput decline that is common at the edge of networks. AirWalk’s LTE small cell product will be on display presenting the foundation for the near term future small cell product line.
